FAQ

Bone marrow transplantation (hematopoietic stem cell transplantation) is considered the most effective method in the treatment of hematologic diseases in adults and children. However, not every patient has indications of bone marrow transplantation as the main treatment method. In some situations (in the presence of certain mutations of genes - translocations), perhaps long-term treatment in the form of chemotherapy, which allows to achieve remission. Bone marrow transplantation in such cases is considered when the disease recurs. Foreign specialists do not make decisions individually and patient management is guided by modern medical protocols.
Effectiveness and success of treatment depends on two factors - doctor’s experience and hospital equipment for treating blood cancer patients. This also includes the availability of modern,high-quality drugs (for chemo, antimicrobial and antifungal therapy).

Foreign medical centers have achieved much greater success for the treatment of oncohematology, which is also associated with much more transplants. For example, only in Turkey about 3000 bone marrow transplants are performed each year, which is several dozen times more than many developing countries.

Being on drug therapy, as well as after bone marrow transplantation, the patient’s immune system is susceptible to infections, so it is important that specialized sterile boxes with professional ventilation systems are available in the hospital and HEPA filters.

The ideal medical center for treating oncohematological patients should be classified as maximally secure, because only if all the above criteria are available, the patient will be provided with effective and safe medical services.
The main feature in the treatment of oncohematological children is the presence of pediatric oncohematology in hospitals. Today, not every medical center abroad can accept a child for treatment with a pathology of the hematopoietic system. However, there are such centers in Spain, Germany, Turkey and Israel. They can be as multidisciplinary with large units of hematology and bone marrow transplantation centers, and highly specialized children's hospitals, on the basis of which there are relevant departments. Mostly Major University Hospitals.

The decision on the possibility of treatment of a child at a medical center is made by his doctors in a consultation, which provides all the necessary documents of the patient. In some cases, the hospital may require a full prepayment of the cost of treatment, especially if the patient is in a decompensated state.
